Attractions Near Historic Buffalo

Buffalo's Historic Main Street

Buffalo's Historic Main Street was built on what was once a trail that curved down a slight hill, forded Clear Creek, then angled up a grade to the other side. The first freight wagons with their teams of oxen, horses and buggies made this trail where the first buildings of Buffalo were erected. The town was not named after the buffalo that roamed the area, but after the town of Buffalo, New York.

The bridge in the heart of Buffalo, which bisects Main Street, was written up in Ripley's "Believe-it-or-Not" as the only bridge in the world where a U-turn was legal. Today you can visit many quaint antique stores and souvenir shops that line the street and stop for a "quick one" at the Occidental Hotel in a bar restored to its 1860 appearance. You can almost hear the ghosts talking, drinking, and playing cards.

Rodeo fun!  Come and watch real cowboys compete for silver belt buckles and cash trying to outlast that bucking bronco, or lasso and bring down a stampeding calf. Laugh at the rodeo clowns' crazy antics. Every Wednesday night (except July 4) at the Buffalo Fairgrounds starting at 8:00 PM sharp. Don't miss this real western event. You'll want to tell your friends about it!
